So, you’ve spent days – or even weeks - selecting the perfect carpet for your home. You’ve created a flow throughout every room and you’re excited to feel the plush material under your toes. But the hard work isn’t over yet; the next hurdle is carpet installation.
Are you brave enough to attempt DIY, or would you rather leave the laying of your fresh new carpet roll to the experts?
Mr Carpet has measured out the pros and cons of each avenue, because we want your flooring to be nothing less than perfect for you. Answer the following questions to determine the best option for your home.
Do you want perfect carpet laying?
YES! - Hiring a professional rewards you with the confidence that the job will be done properly and efficiently. This is their area of expertise and they will arrive armed with the correct tools and equipment needed for all types of floors and carpets. They understand your unique space and can advise on the right underlay, for a flawless finish and a carpet you can be proud of.
NO – If you do it alone, you’re in charge of the quality of the outcome. Even if you’ve done this once or twice before, you’ll probably make a few errors along the way. You’ll need to source the right tools – and know how to use them! Remember, if you do make a mistake after cutting the carpet, the warranty is likely void, and you’ll have to buy brand new flooring.
Are you in a hurry?
YES! – When you call the experts, they can come out at a time to suit you and try to make it fit into both yours and their schedules. Once they start, they should be able to finish the job within a few hours, depending on the size of the area being carpeted.
NO – If you’re happy to engage in your own project and don’t have a strict deadline for your carpet installation, you can have a crack at it yourself. Play some music, go at your own pace and save the job for a rainy day.
Do you want to save money?
YES! – You’ve already spent money on buying the carpet, so you could eliminate the cost of old carpet removal, installation and labour by doing it all yourself. You will have to pay for the hire or purchase of tools, however, and will spend money on professionals if something does go wrong.
NO – If quality is more important than saving pennies, consult a carpet laying expert. Shop around for the best quotes and you should be able to find a price you’re happy with.
Does the entire house need carpet installation?
YES! – This is a big job, and we don’t advise going DIY if you need to work on your entire home. It will be time-consuming, and the work could get sloppy if you grow bored – no one wants visible seams around the home.
NO – If you’re only carpeting one room – especially if it’s a relatively hidden room like a playroom – you may be able to manage it alone. While spaces like the living room are regularly used and seen by visitors, other rooms may not require as high a standard.
