Which Carpet Is Right for Me?

Choosing a carpet can seem like a daunting process but the team at Mr Carpets in Chatswood is here to make the decision easier. Our team of professional sales and installation staff will be able to assist every step of the way.

Carpets come in many fibres, styles and colours. We cover the main fibre options, wool, wool-blend, nylon and polypropylene below.

Types of Carpet Fibres - Wool, Blend, Nylon or Polypropylene

There are four main types of carpet fibres which we will briefly explain below.

100% Wool

Wool carpets are crafted from natural sheep wool fibres. These beautiful carpets are warm, luxurious, plush underfoot and durable. 100% wool carpets are also eco friendly and great for the environment. Known for their durability and resilience, wool carpets are a good choice for high traffic areas as they are able to withstand the rigours of daily life.

Naturally stain and soil resistant, wool carpets are easier to keep looking great for longer.

Wool / Nylon Blend

There are multiple wool blends on the market today but the wool/ nylon blend is the most popular. This mix is usually 80% wool and 20% nylon which means you’re getting all of the properties a wool carpet offers but at a slightly reduced price.

Nylon

One of the most durable options on the residential carpet Sydney market. Nylon is an artificial fibre which has become increasingly popular for residential homeowners and investors alike. If you have a home with high traffic (such as with pets or children) or if you are wanting a cost effective durable option then Nylon carpet is work considering. We have a very large range in store.

Polypropylene

Polypropylene carpets are a highly durable artificial carpet made from highly durable materials. It is resistant to wear and tear making it the perfect choice for hallways and staircases. Some of the benefits are that the carpets are resistant to stains and liquids.

Loop Pile, Twist Pile and Plush - What Are The Differences?

When talking about the pile type, we’re referring to how the carpet is cut, which affects the style, feel and look of the carpet.

loop pile

Loop pile carpets are made with small loops all pressed together. These come in two different options - level loop and multi-loop heights. Loop pile carpets provide comfort underfoot and are suited to living rooms and bedrooms. They give off a luxurious look.

Twist pile

Perfect for the busy home, these carpets are ideal for all home types. They are soft underfoot and a great all-rounder carpet.

Plush pile

Luxurious to the touch, plush pile carpets almost have a velvet feel to them. The pile is short and slightly twisted. The downside is that they show foot and vacuum marks but are so soft you'll want to take a nap on your floor!
